Malang, December 18, 2024 - In the midst of global issues regarding the need for renewable energy, Muhammadiyah Malang University showed concrete steps through the Micro Hydro Power Plant/Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Mikro Hidro (PLTMH). One of these superior innovations is located in Sumber Maron, Malang Regency, which not only supports green energy but also becomes an educational tourism attraction.

As a result of the Professors Program for Community Development/Program Profesor Penggerak Pembangunan Masyarakat (P3M), this PLTMH offers a model of collaboration between technology, community, and the environment. Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Fauzan, emphasized the importance of initiatives like this during his visit to Sumber Maron.

“This is not just technology, but how technology can have a real impact on people's lives. PLTMH UMM is a perfect example of how an innovation can encourage local economic improvement while preserving the environment,” said Fauzan.

Green Energy that Becomes a National Inspiration

PLTMH at Sumber Maron has long been one of the main pillars in supporting local energy needs. In addition, its impact on the tourism sector is no less significant. Visiting tourists not only enjoy the beauty of nature but also get education about renewable energy.

Malang Regent, Drs. Sanusi, praised UMM's contribution in strengthening Sumber Maron's position as a leading tourist destination. “This PLTMH not only supports green energy but also becomes an educational attraction that increases tourist visits. We hope this model can be expanded to other areas,” he said.

UMM Rector, Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., emphasized that the PLTMH is a manifestation of the White Campus' commitment to supporting energy independence. According to him, the project is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's main programs, namely food, energy and water self-sufficiency.

“The PLTMH is not just a technology project. It is a symbol of sustainability that combines renewable energy with community empowerment,” Nazaruddin explained.

In the midst of global challenges related to energy transition, UMM's PLTMH at Sumber Maron comes as a real and relevant solution. By integrating technological innovation, education, and economic benefits, this PLTMH is an inspiring model that is ready to be implemented in other regions in Indonesia.

As a campus that continues to encourage change, UMM is not only part of the solution, but also the main driver in realizing the vision of green energy for Indonesia's future. (dik)
